FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

→ WHAT IS VOLUNTEERING AT MEREDITH MUSIC FESTIVAL ALL ABOUT?

Firstly, Volunteering at Meredith is a time-honoured tradition. Volunteering at Meredith came about when people started asking if they could help, rather than the festival asking people for help. It is stories like these that make Meredith what it is, and really what it always has been. Meredith Music Festival prides itself on community and nothing says community like people putting their hands up to help out.

Other than the warm fuzzy feeling of helping Meredith be Meredith, Volunteering at Meredith Music Festival means that your assistance to the festival – by way of working in various roles onsite – is rewarded with a Fri/Sat/Sun festival ticket. This ticket (which is actually a wristband) will grant you entry to the festival on 10, 11 & 12 December 2010.

Volunteer shifts at Meredith Music Festival start first thing Friday morning and run right through to the close of gates on the Sunday. This means that there are roles at Meredith that are required to be filled by Volunteers 24 hours a day over the course of the festival. Due to the large number of Volunteers, shift requests unfortunately cannot be granted. Please consider this when you are applying to become an MMF Volunteer.

Previously, Volunteers were required to work 5 hours over the festival weekend. As of Meredith Music Festival 2010, Volunteers will be required to work up to 8 hours over the festival weekend. Volunteers will not be asked to work 8 hours straight. Instead Volunteers will work 2 or 3 short shifts over the festival weekend that will make up 8 hours work in total. Eight hours of Volunteer work plus a Meredith T-Shirt in exchange for a Fri/Sat/Sun Meredith Music Festival ticket is a very good deal: it equates to $35-$40 per hour.

→ I PLAN ON HAVING A FEW DRINKS OVER THE FESTIVAL WEEKEND, WHAT HAPPENS IF I “HAVE A FEW TOO MANY” BEFORE MY SHIFT?

We understand that you might like to relax under the gum trees with a can in hand. However, in the best safety interests of yourself and your fellow festival goers you are expected to turn up to your shifts with a Blood Alcohol Concentration level of 0.05 or less. This is all explained in the Volunteer Agreement, so please read this before you sign up as a Volunteer Applicant. If you are offered a Volunteer role, you will be required to agree to these terms and conditions.

→ WHEN DO VOLUNTEER APPLICATIONS OPEN AND CLOSE?

Volunteer Applications opened at 10am EST Monday 9th August 2010 and closed at 6pm EST on Friday 20th August 2010.

All Volunteer Applicants must be 18 or over at the time of Friday 10th December 2010.

→ WHAT IS THE NEW VOLUNTEER ONLINE APPLICATION PROCESS?

We have a brand new Volunteer Online Application system. It’s fabbo!

From here on in, the Volunteer Application will record your details so that if you decide to Volunteer in the future at further Meredith Music Festivals or Golden Plains Festivals, you do not have to enter the same particular details (address, contact number etc) year after year. If you need to change/update your details, you can do so at your convenience – including deleting all your details from the system if you wish to.

Step 1
Please fill in your Volunteer Application form – and submit it. You will receive a message confirming that your Volunteer Application has been sent. Next you will receive an email that will ask you to confirm your application. If you do not receive an email confirmation, please begin your application again. If you do wish to confirm your Volunteer Application, please follow the link in the email. Once you have done this, your Volunteer Application is complete.

Step 2
You will receive an email from Adele Spence (Volunteer Manager) by August 24th informing you if you are a Lucky Volunteer (your Application has been accepted) or an Unlucky Volunteer (your application has not been accepted).

Step 3 – for Lucky Volunteers only
At the same time you get the good news that your Volunteer Application has been accepted, you will be asked to formally agree to Meredith Music Festival’s Volunteer Terms and Agreements. Part of this agreement is providing us with your credit card details that will act as security against the ticket you will receive. Your credit card details will not be accessed at all if you stick to your end of the deal, which is spelled out in the agreement.

Credit card details are stored by our ticket company – Greentix. Please click HERE to read Greentix’s privacy and security statement.

→ WHEN WILL I FIND OUT IF MY APPLICATION HAS BEEN SUCCESSFUL?

You will be notified via email by Tuesday 24th August as to whether you are a Lucky or an Unlucky Volunteer applicant.

Please understand that we receive double the amount of applicants than there are Volunteer positions, so even if you are an Unlucky Volunteer applicant it does not mean that we don’t think you that might make a great Volunteer.

→ IF I AM UNLUCKY IN MY APPLICATION IS THERE ANOTHER WAY I CAN VOLUNTEER?

Yes, you will be offered the opportunity to be placed on the “Volunteer Waiting List”. As the festival gets closer first round Lucky Volunteer’s may need to withdraw due to work or personal reasons etc. This means that there are positions that need to be filled and the Volunteer Waiting List is the first point of contact.

→ IF I AM A LUCKY VOLUNTEER APPLICANT, WHEN WILL I FIND OUT WHEN MY SHIFTS ARE?

You will be notified by email at least a month prior the festival.

→ IF I AM A LUCKY VOLUNTEER APPLICANT ARE THERE ANY HOURS LEADING UP TO THE FESTIVAL THAT I AM REQUIRED FOR BRIEFINGS ETC ?

There will a Volunteer Ticket Collection Day within the two month period leading up to the festival. On this day you are only required for around half an hour to collect your ticket and further information regarding your shift. There will be plenty of notice via email regarding when and where the Volunteer Ticket Collection day will be held.

→ IF I AM A LUCKY VOLUNTEER WHAT IS THE LATEST DATE I CAN DROP OUT AS A VOLUNTEER?

As per the agreement, 28 days prior to the festival (Friday 12th November 2010).
